So is there validation for these claims? Some individuals suggest that the proposed "apocalypse" will not mean an end to the human race, but rather, it may indicate a change in human consciousness. There are other reasons to doubt that the world is ending. Let's not forget that the end of the world has been predicted before. 1666 and 1777 were both years that people suspected a cataclysmic event to transpire, and both 2000 and 2010 brought fears that "life as we know it" was ending.
